Artificial Grass

The idea of artificial grass first arose in the early 1950s, but it was not until the early 1960s that it materialised and manufacturers started to produce it. The method of making artificial grass is the same as carpets, i.e. it is tufted. However the difference in raw materials used for artificial grass means it can be manufactured in different ways.  For example, artificial grass blades can be made in narrow sheets or thrust through moulds to make rounded or oval fibres. Artificial grass is made from man made materials, three of which are polyethylene, polypropylene and nylon. Those that are made from polyethylene are long lasting and gentle on the skin, whereas those that are made from polypropylene are harsher and resilient albeit also long lasting. Lastly, artificial grasses made from nylon are robust and relatively hardwearing.
